Fillings

Fillings

To treat a cavity your dentist will numb the area to remove the decayed portion of the tooth. Then, the area on the tooth where the decayed material was removed will be "filled". Fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth and teeth that have been worn down from misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding). All decay is removed using your dentist best choice of instrument which includes a dental air handpiece, carbide and diamond coated burs along with other small instruments that help the doctor on removing decay and shaping the cavity for filling material. Our modern facility uses tooth colored resin material to fill your tooth eliminating dark and silver filling that can be made up of metals including mercury. Once the tooth is filled and "cured" then you are ready to be on your way! The numbing will gradually go away and you will be back to your daily routine in no time.

Cleanings

Professional Cleanings

When it comes to your Dental Cleanings there are many factors we look at to determine which cleaning best suites your case.

Deep Cleaning

Irregular visits to the dentist, not flossing or brushing properly can lead to gum inflammation which can cause Periodontal Disease. One of the best ways to help reverse this is by performing a "deep cleaning" clinically know as Scaling and Root Planning. Scaling beneath the gum line must be done since harmful bacteria that causes bad breath and inflammation is laying there. All this is done while your gums are under local anesthetic. Once your gums are back to normal we then schedule cleanings regularly to prevent further inflammation.

Regular Cleaning

Consistent visits to your dentist, flossing and brushing correctly keep your gums healthy. Healthy gums benefit from a "regular cleaning" better known as a prophylactic cleaning that polishes teeth and washes away bacteria.

Extractions

Extractions

While our aim is to restore your natural teeth, sometimes a tooth can reach a point that we cannot restore it, this can lead to a Dental Extraction or a Surgical Extraction. They may also be removed to make room for other teeth or an orthodontia treatment. Simple extractions are performed on visible teeth in the mouth under local anesthesia. The tooth is loosened from its socket and then removed with dental forceps. Surgical extraction is a more complicated procedure done on teeth that have broken under the gum line or have not fully erupted.

Root Canals

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (also called a root canal) is done when decay will likely damage or has already killed a tooth. During a root canal, a dentist or endodontist removes the pulp from the center of a tooth and fills the pulp cavity. This can prevent the development of a painful infection in the pulp that may spread to other teeth. A root canal can also treat an infection that has developed into an abscessed tooth. This procedure can relieve toothache, stop infection, and promote healing. After local anesthesia, The tooth is prepped and isolated, then the dentist will open the tooth to remove the pulp or nerve from the canal or canals. After the canal(s) are clear the dentist fills the tooth and seals it with various materials. To restore the strengh of the tooth a Dental Crown is later placed over the tooth which completly restores bite and chewing function to that tooth.

Crowns

Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth -- to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encases the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. Permanent crowns can be made from stainless steel, all metal (such as gold or another alloy), porcelain-fused-to-metal, all resin, or all ceramic.

Stainless steel crowns are prefabricated crowns that are used on permanent teeth primarily as a temporary measure. The crown protects the tooth or filling while a permanent crown is made from another material. For children, a stainless steel crown is commonly used to fit over a primary tooth that's been prepared to fit it. The crown covers the entire tooth and protects it from further decay. When the primary tooth comes out to make room for the permanent tooth, the crown comes out naturally with it. Porcelain-fused-to-metal dental crowns can be color matched to your adjacent teeth (unlike the metallic crowns). However, more wearing to the opposing teeth occurs with this crown type compared with metal or resin crowns. The crown's porcelain portion can also chip or break off. All-ceramic or all-porcelain dental crowns provide better natural color match than any other crown type and may be more suitable for people with metal allergies.

Sealents

Sealents

Sealants are a thin coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth -- usually the back teeth (the premolars and molars) -- to prevent tooth decay. The painted on liquid sealant quickly bonds into the depressions and grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth. Although thorough brushing and flossing can remove food particles and plaque from smooth surfaces of teeth, they cannot always get into all the nooks and crannies of the back teeth to remove the food and plaque. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas from tooth decay by "sealing out" plaque and food.

Because of the likelihood of developing decay in the depressions and grooves of the premolars and molars, children and teenagers are obvious candidates for sealants.

Typically, children should get sealants on their permanent molars and premolars as soon as these teeth come in. This way, the dental sealants can protect the teeth through the cavity-prone years of ages 6 to 14.

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth. There are many advantages to dental implants, including:

  • Improved appearance. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth.

  • Improved speech. With poor-fitting dentures, the teeth can slip within the mouth causing you to mumble or slur  words.

  • Improved comfort. Because they become part of you, implants eliminate the discomfort of removable dentures.

  • Improved oral health. Dental implants don't require reducing other teeth, as a tooth-supported bridge does. Because nearby teeth are not altered to support the implant, more of your own teeth are left intact, improving long-term oral health. Individual implants also allow easier access between teeth, improving oral hygiene.

  • Durability. Implants are very durable and will last many years. With good care, many implants last a lifetime.

Success rates of dental implants vary, depending on where in the jaw the implants are placed but, in general, dental implants have a success rate of up to 98%.

Veneers

Veneers

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement.
